What is Rotary Vacuum Paddle Dryer(RVPD)

Rotary Vacuum Paddle Dryer (RVPD) is a cylindrical vessel with a large diameter hollow shaft and a jacket or limpet coil for heating.

The jacket/limpet coil and hollow shaft with paddles can be heated with hot water, steam, or thermal fluid, and cooled with water, brine, or refrigerant.

The hollow shaft has specially designed scraper blades to continuously move and rotate the material, preventing it from staying in contact with hot surface for too long. Heavy-duty trunnions and bearings support the hollow shaft and its drive through a motor, reduction gears, chain, and sprocket.

In some cases, a stationary scraper blade can be added for handling highly sticky materials. The dryer also has arrangements for nitrogen purging and bag cleaning with pulsation by nitrogen jet injector, and the shaft has hard-facing near gland packing areas of trunions.

    Rotary Vacuum Dryer Working Principle 

    The working principle of the rotary vacuum dryer involves the following steps:

    • Material Loading: The material to be dried is loaded into the rotary drum, which is a cylindrical vessel made of stainless steel.
    • Evaporation: The drum rotates slowly, and the material inside is subjected to a vacuum. This creates a low-pressure environment, which lowers the boiling point of the moisture in the material, allowing it to evaporate more easily.
    • Heating: The drum is heated by a jacket or external heat source to aid in the evaporation process. The temperature is controlled to ensure that the material is not overheated and damaged.
    • Moisture Removal: As the moisture is removed from the material, it is collected and condensed on the internal surface of the drum. This condensate is then drained through a condensate outlet.
    • Drying: As the drying process continues, the moisture content of the material decreases, and the product is eventually dried to the desired level.
    • Discharging: Once the material is dried, the rotary drum is stopped, and the dried material is discharged through a discharge port.
